Dear Mr. Xi Shan,

At the suggestion of Dr. Danny Yu, President of Educational Services Exchange with China, I have visited your Xibe website, http://xibe.51.net.

I find it interesting and useful not only for myself, but also useful for my colleagues in various different disciplines (Geography, Anthropology, History, East Asian Languages and Culture) in teaching China. I will also let them know that this website exists.

In my high school history, we were referred to the Xian-be people, as one of the five "wu"s. I never made the connection to the Xibe ethnic minority until I accessed your website. I find the design simple but elegant, and user-friendly. It would be a valuable resource for Xibe research. My hearty congratulations to your accomplishment.

The timing is good for Xibe research in both China and the US. The Development of the Great Western Region will spark increasing interest in the Xinjiang region and its inhabitants. In the U.S., the renewed interest in Central Asia as a result of its involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq would also generate greater academic attention to the region.

I hope that you will continue this worthwhile endeavor, and look forward to future visits of your website.

Sincerely,

Dr. James Tong
Associate Professor, Political Science, UCLA
Chief-Editor, Chinese Law and Government.
